For many years I have competed in and ran multiple computer security competitions on the east coast. From being a competitor and team captain in The National Cyber Defense Competition, to winning Hack-or-Halo at Shmoocon, and also running the Information Security Talent Search and designing the CTF for the Rochester Security Summit, I’ve gotten to see a lot of great competitors and different challenges.

This week I have began to design a brand new CTF/Security competition that could possibly be played online from remote locations and in person. This new CTF will include things like:

Social Engineering

Reverse Engineering

Malware analysis

System Security

Network Security

Cryptography

Intrusion Detection

Exploit writing

The idea behind this is to take the experiences I’ve had from various competition and turn them all into one big comprehensive security competition that touches a bit on every aspect of security.

Who knows, maybe this will span out and end up being a regular competition in the DC area.
